Aaladamara Foundation was co-founded by The Banyan and Azim Premji Foundation to focus on the cause of homelessness and mental illness in Karnataka. The Banyan is a 30-year-old NGO offering comprehensive mental health services for homeless and ultra-vulnerable populations. The Azim Premji Foundation was founded as a philanthropic organization by Mr. Premji in 2014 to address a range of issues from education to disability, homelessness, urban poverty, health, and citizenship rights.
Both organizations have been engaged for nearly a decade to create equitable mental health services for homeless persons in urban, rural, and tribal areas. They have co-created the Emergency Care and Recovery Centre approach, which was adopted by the Government of Tamil Nadu as a best practice to serve homeless mentally ill persons, and has now been scaled up across 15 District Hospitals in Tamil Nadu.
Aaladamara was founded with a vision to promote immediate, comprehensive access to an ecosystem of mental health care in Karnataka.
Aaladamara works to provide mental health support, advocacy, treatment, therapy, rehabilitation, and ongoing support for the homeless in India.
